CITES stands for Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species. CITES permit is required for CITES-listed ornamental fish exported from Thailand. Without CITES permit, airline will not accept cargo and destination customs will confiscate fish.
Which Ornamental Fish Need CITES Permit from Thailand?
Asian Arowana (Scleropages formosus): CITES Appendix I. Most restricted. Need CITES permit, microchip, and WILD or CITES tag. Export from Thailand requires farm with CITES registration and DOF approval.
Some Stingray Species: Some freshwater stingray species are CITES listed. Need CITES permit.
Some Seahorse and Other Endangered Species: Some species are CITES Appendix II. Need CITES permit and non-detriment finding.
Non-CITES Species: Betta, Guppy, Cichlid, Tetra, Goldfish, Koi, most Discus do NOT need CITES permit. Only health certificate is required.

Common Problems We Avoid
No CITES Farm Registration: If farm is not CITES registered, Department of Fisheries Thailand will not issue CITES permit. We check registration before buying.
Missing Import Permit: Some countries like USA require USFWS import permit for Arowana. Without it, fish will be held at USFWS port.
Wrong Scientific Name: DOF requires correct scientific name and appendix. We use correct name: Scleropages formosus for Asian Arowana.
