Packing density is how many fish per bag is safe for air cargo export. Wrong density is the main cause of DOA. Many exporters overcrowd to save volumetric weight and freight cost. This causes ammonia buildup, low oxygen, and fighting.
Safe Packing Density Guide - AquaBridge Thailand Real Operations
At AquaBridge Thailand, Bangkok - Thailand, we are a consolidation and export service. We use low density based on fish size, species, and flight time to USA, EU, and Middle East. We never overcrowd.
Betta Fish: 1 fish per bag. Betta is aggressive. Must be 1 per bag with oxygen:water ratio 2:1. For long flights over 20 hours to USA, we use ratio 3:1.
Guppy Fish: 20 fish per bag for small size (2-3 cm). For large size fancy Guppy (4-5 cm), 15 fish per bag. Max 20 per bag to prevent DOA.
Cichlid Fish: 2-5 fish per bag depending on size. Small Cichlid 3-5 cm = 5 per bag. Medium 6-8 cm = 2-3 per bag. Large 10+ cm = 1-2 per bag.
Tetra, Danio, Rasbora: 30 fish per bag for small size (2-3 cm). These are schooling fish, can pack more but need high oxygen.
Goldfish and Koi: 1-3 fish per bag depending on size. Goldfish excretes high ammonia, needs 48-hour fasting and large water volume.
Shrimp and Snails: 30-50 per bag with moss and low water, high oxygen.
How We Calculate Density for Your Order
Flight Time: Longer flight to USA = lower density. Short flight to Singapore = can increase density slightly.
Fish Size and Ammonia: Bigger fish = more ammonia = lower density. We use 48-hour conditioning to reduce ammonia to zero.
Oxygen Ratio: We use oxygen:water ratio 2:1 standard. For aggressive and large fish, we use 3:1.
Foam Box Size: We use premium high-density foam box. Box size is calculated to save your volumetric weight while keeping temperature stable.
What is Not Allowed
No overcrowding to save freight cost. This is the number one cause of DOA.
No shared AWB boxes. We use real house AWB only for your shipment.
No single bag. We use double thick PE bags with rubber band, no metal clip, as required by IATA LAR.
We provide video of packing for every box. We combine multi-farm orders into one fully documented shipment with low mortality. Service only.
